                          A little over a year ago I noticed that I was feeling run down, easily exhausted, and my joints were stiffening up. Over the years, while working mainly behind a desk, I had put on too much fat, lost muscle tone, and was not eating properly. I was nearing my 60th birthday, looking forward to retirement, wanting to be fit and healthy. I hired a personal trainer, Mary Gandee, of Blue Fire Fitness, to help get me back in shape.

                          Mary sat with me, asked many questions, established my baseline strength and weaknesses, and developed a customized workout plan to help me meet my goals. After my first exhausting, but rewarding, workout I remember asking her “When does this get easier?” She just smiled, and I knew that it wouldn’t get easier, but that I would be pushed ever harder. Mary seemed to always know better than I did what I could accomplish, and through her coaching and friendship I’m getting there.

                          Within the year I’ve dropped weight, gained muscle, flexibility, and core strength. I joined Team Blue Fire, her triathlon team, and am now a somewhat respectable runner (before working out with Mary I always said that the only time I would run was when somebody was chasing me!). She has me swimming and biking, and I’ve raced in two triathlons and many 5k and 10k races. I’m now training for my first ½ marathon.

                          Thanks to Mary’s expertise as a coach and trainer, and the friendly atmosphere she encourages during workouts and events, I can positively say I feel better, I look better, I am better.
